What Art is to Me

Art:

The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producingworks to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

When i style or do hair i get to bring out my creative side. i vision a style an try my best to display it on a person.
i never really realized my artistic talent with doing peoples hair until everyone started telling me that I am really good at what i do to me its not something just to do i really enjoy doing it. to me its art not just a hair dew.  i have never had really practice it it just comes easy to me as a natural talent.

After Graduation i plan on going to Beauty School to get my license in Cosmetology and Hair Styling. I really want to go to the Toni & Guy Academy. This School Focuses on Mostly on Hair Design as you can see i enjoy doing up dews.

Invention

School Year Or 09/10 I wanted to graduated with my Class of 2010 i had to make a petition to graduate by portfolio i spent a while getting all my facts together in wanting to graduate and show that i had the ability to graduate an make it in the real world with learning enough from the education i had learned in that point in time. So i wrote a petition and went in front or the advisor's and principal and presented my reasoning to graduate with not enough credit. It got approved.
As you can see i changed my mind. i realized that i was going to cheat myself out in the long run and wanted to get my high school diploma the right way. So i attended another year of high school and i am really glad i did because you have to work your way in having things instead of taking the easy way out.

February 28, 2010

Proposal number: First Round

Summary

Objective

To demonstrate that I, Breanna Ortiz, have sufficient understanding and achievement toward Yampah Mountain High School graduation requirements that I may be eligible for graduation outside of transcript credit requirements.

Goals

Present evidences of achievement, readiness, work experience, community involvement and independent living sufficient to qualify for graduation by portfolio.

Personal Background

Most of my high school career we were moving around as a family, often during the annual CSAP testing. My freshman and sophomore years I wasn’t able to transfer schools and start classes right away. During my sophomore year I moved to Parachute and tried to transfer but it was during CSAP and I had to wait to begin classes. Contact and communication with Grand Valley High School was difficult for those first few months. I was finally placed in classes that were for sophomores and I hadn’t completed my freshman year so I was in over my head. I stayed there through my sophomore year and didn’t go back my junior year. During that year I tried to get my GED at CMC but discovered that wasn’t for me. At that point I decided to try to complete my high school career through an accredited school. So my senior year I enrolled at Yampah Mountain High School. I turned 18 in January and my class will be graduating this school year.

Evidences

Following are the preliminary demonstrations of my readiness for the challenges of future career and educational challenges.

Evidence of Academic Achievement

I will re-take the NWEA tests online and compare my most recent scores against my earlier score from the beginning of the current school year. I will use the increase in my test score as well as my overall relative score to demonstrate my competency in all the major academic areas. During the third and fourth quarter of this school year I will pass seven or more academic classes, and two or more elective classes.

Evidence of Post-Secondary Readiness

I have acquired some initial vocational skills through my internship at the Rocky Mountain Health Clinic. I will also take the ACT test this spring and use that score to further verify my academic readiness.

Evidence of Career Workplace Experience

When I was fifteen and sixteen I took care of two young children all day during the summer months. I was responsible for dressing, feeding, changing, cleaning and providing meaningful activities for the children under my care. More recently I have be job shadowing Jenny Lang at the Rocky Mountain Health Clinic on a weekly basis and will continue to shadow her at least six hours every week. I will also take and pass the six levels of the WIN Teamwork curriculum.

Evidence of Community Involvement

When I lived in Denver I often went with my youth group to feed the homeless. As a member of the Interim Trip to California I helped feed the homeless in Los Angeles, as well as assisted in separating, sorting and folding clothes for the homeless. I will volunteer weekly at Lift Up in Rifle from March through graduation in May and complete the forty hours of community service that are part of my graduation requirement.

Evidence of Independent Living or Other Information

When I was fifteen and sixteen I took care of two young children all day during the summer months. I was responsible for dressing, feeding, changing, cleaning and providing meaningful activities for the children under my care. More recently I have been job shadowing Jenny Lang at the Rocky Mountain Health Clinic on a weekly basis. I will also take and pass the six levels of the WIN Teamwork curriculum. These experiences build toward demonstrating my readiness to shoulder increased responsibilities in both college and the workplace. My work with Jenny Lang has been and will continue to be especially instructive regarding proper workplace etiquette, attitudes and job behavior.
